'Douglas Annand: The Art of Life' tells the story of an innovative and versatile graphic artist who pioneered modern design in Australia.
Queensland-born Annand is recognised as one of Australia's most influential commercial artists and graphic designers. The majority of his work was produced from the 1930s to the 1950s, an era when an influx of new, modern ideas challenged the conservative tastes that prevailed in Australia. Those working in the commercial arts could more easily apply these new styles to their work, and thus many Australians' first exposure to modern art was through advertisements and graphic and interior design. This exhibition celebrates Annand's achievements and documents his role in the rise of modernism in mid twentieth-century Australia.
