'The imagination demands an alternative world'.
Nick Cave, The Sydney Morning Herald, 16 June 2001
Following a successful tour of regional Queensland in 2002, Brisbane audiences have the opportunity to view the alluring imagery of 'Otherworlds: Images of Fantasy and Fiction'. Curated to hold special appeal for young adults, the exhibition features the work of artists who use the fragmentary nature of dreams, visions and altered mind states to produce their work. Outstanding works from the Collection, such as Brett Whiteley's Portrait of Arthur Rimbaud 1970-71 and Yves Tanguy's early surrealist work Fumier à gauche, violettes à droite (Dung on the left, violets on the right) 1926, form the core of the exhibition.
