The Queensland Art Gallery has been actively acquiring contemporary miniature paintings and sculptures from South Asia since 1999. Contemporary artists from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka are employing an extraordinary range of painting styles and technical virtuosity to create politically inspired, radical art that draws on the tradition of the miniature from sixteenth-century India.
This display features paintings and sculptures by artists including Mohammad Imran Qureshi, Nusra Latif Qureshi, Tissa De Alwis and Aisha Khalid, as well as seven traditional Mughal and Rajput miniatures on loan from the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
