'Kids' APT' 1999 bridge-making activity

As part of 'Kids' APT' 1999, children built bridges ― like the one constructed across the Watermall by APT artist Cai Guo Qiang.

Kids' APT 1999

9 September 1999 - 26 January 2000
Queensland Art Gallery

In 1999 the 'Kid's APT' was nominated as one of the most appealing elements of the 'Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art'. For the first time, leading international artists worked with the Gallery's education staff to develop vital activities for children that would enhance their understanding of the works in the exhibition, and engage adults as well. Acclaimed Chinese artist, Cai Guo Qiang designed a traditional bamboo bridge that spanned the Gallery's famous watermall, and then encouraged kids to make their own miniature versions. Thousands of kids took up the challenge, and learned that engineering is as much an art as it is a science!
